M6 conversion questions..

seems this has been a hot topic lately, but other than everyone listing "complete conversion" in the for sale section i havent seena list of all parts needed in detail.. can anyone help me with this? heres what i KNOW i need...

shifter plate for console
complete transmission (bellhousing, clutch, PP)
flywheel
wiring harness (what parts of it..?)
shifter
crossmember
do i need the driveshaft too??
master cylinder/slave cylinder and hydraulic lines..
this pretty much everything?? and is there anything else i should consider while doing this swap? (already considering getting a ram HD clutch kit so thats one less thing to worry about, and a low miles LT1 is goin in at the same time )

(going thursday to pick up the setup from a local salvage yard and need to make sure i get everything cause i was told 1k for everything i need, just wanna make sure to get everything while im there before the person has time to think and add more for extra parts i may forget lol )

Re: M6 conversion questions..

Pedals with switches. Get the plug that goes to the neutral safety switch on the pedals and the Y harness that plugs into the two white switches.

Get any of the bolts and nuts you can. The flywheel bolts are different than the flexplate bolts. The belhousing to engine bolts are the same as the auto.
The U bolt for the clutch master.

You don't really need the wiring harness but if it's not any extra I would get it. You will need the connectors for the speed sensor, reverse lights and reverse lockout. Just get all the connectors that plug into the trans.

The torque arm mount and bolts and nuts for it.

You can use your driveshaft. If the one from the doner car is aluminum get it.

Re: M6 conversion questions..

The speed sensor should work. As far as I know all 94-97 T56 speed sensors are the same. The connector for the T56 is different than the auto.

Just to make sure I mean the torque arm mounts that bolt to the trans. The torque arm itself may be different but the auto one works with the T56.

I didn't think of it before but the exhaust hanger that bolts to the trans is different than the auto one. I would get it too.

You may already have this but it is a good guide to the swap.

Re: M6 conversion questions..

If you go from an auto to a stick, is a check engine light going to go off?? I would think it would, since it's "looking" for an auto tranny. Not 100% sure, but I thought I might bring it up!

Re: M6 conversion questions..

ur question is answered right at the start of that link posted by rngilliland. according to it, itll set a code to the computer for the CAGs but its a silent code so no SES light, thats if u have the computer tuned for an M6, if not it will and speedo will also be really low. just from glancing over that page really quickly lol

Re: M6 conversion questions..

I messed up on the post above. Should have said the speed sensors are the same on 94 to 97.

You will need a 6 speed tune for the computer. You can do it yourself or have one of the tuners on this board do it. Either way you can set the skip shift so it won't set any codes.

Re: M6 conversion questions..

more fun, got all the parts and all together (driving it right now with a few minor issues) the torque arm mount wouldnt bolt up right according to the shop that did the swap, we ordered a new torque arm mount and bushing for a 6 spd car, but apparnetly the bushing doenst bolt up properly to the A4 torqe arm, the instructions i had dont say and the shop just rigged it up to work with the m6 bushing for now, any ideas? was i suppose to have used the a4 ta bushing instead, and would that even work with the m6 ta mount?

Re: M6 conversion questions..

The torque arm mount that bolts to the trans is made up of two pieces. The rubber bushing is part of each half of the mount. The mount bolts to the trans and sandwiches the torque arm between the two halfs of the mount. The torque arm doesn't bolt to the mount it just clamps between the two parts of the mount so the torque arm can move foward and backwards as the axle moves up and down. The auto trans torque arm will work with the t-56 torque arm mounts without any problems.

The inner mount for the t-56 is part # 10252374 The outer mount is part # 10252375 You will also need bolt # 11500930 and a washer and another bolt that I don't have the part # for but can be purchased at an auto parts store once you figure out the size.

If you got the mounts from the doner car they should work fine. I would make sure they used the correct mounts as the auto ones are different and won't work with a t-56.

Any GM dealer can get the mounts for you but if you can't find the correct mounts I have a set with 2000 miles on them I would sell.
