M6 Clutch Help

I'm thinking about buyinh a 95 z28 ss hood working slp 200 ss wing zr1 polished wheels 100,000 miles flow master exhaust t-tops, short throw shifter, The guys asking 6,500 which I think is too.

I drove the car and the question to you guys is that the clutch didn't start grabbing until 2 inches for the top. Is this tell tale sign that the pressure plate is going?

Is there away to adjust this ? I know on some other cars you can adjust the range that the clutch engages?

Thanks guys.

What do you think on the price he's asking?

I'm no expert in the clutch subject, but 2" from the top seems wrong. My clutch has 83k miles on it, and it starts grabbing about 1/3 of the way up. I don't even think the last 2" of pedal from the top plays any significant part in my car. As for the price...try and get him down some. $6500 seems high for the mileage, and you can immagine it has occasionally been driven hard since he started modding it. Ask about things recently replaced (opti, waterpump, fuel pump, plugs/wires) because those will go out on high mileage engines. I'd say $5800-$6000 is reasonable if he has maintained it well.

Depends on what clutch is in it . My SPEC stage 4 dosent grab till the last 2in or so. Stock type should grab about 1/3 to 1/2 way up.

When you're shopping for cars, and the owner is asking $6,500, it's pretty obvious he'll take $6k for it. Anytime you see dollars over the biggest # "OBO" easily shows what they'll take back to the nearest WHOLE figure, and sometimes a little less.

That car seems to be pretty nice If that car is fairly well maintained I would pick it up for about $6000. Despite the fact it has 100k miles, I think you'll be better off since it's a m6 than an A4( everybody loves stock 4L60E's ) I got my 94 Ta w/ lthr, t-tops, all power !seats, Ram Air hood, and Ws6 wheels for $6400. I think I got a good deal on it....seems comparible to that car just pay a little less for it. Also, I'd ask him where he got the clutch replaced, and if he tells you a shop ask to see the receipt.

Mine doesnt start grabbing (to any great ammout) until about the last 2 -3 inches. I would really prefer 1/3 or 1/2 way down, so if there is an adjustment I would like to know too. Can it be an old clutch, mine chatters pretty harsh sometimes but never really slips.

The clutch is hydraulic, therefore nonadjustable.

Stock, it is non-adjustable. If you buy a McLeod adjustable master cylinder, you then have an adjustable setup (hence the name) where you can decide how much pedal travel you want to engage/disengage the clutch. Usually, if it is grabbing at the top of the pedal, it means the clutch is getting thin (worn out). No big deal, just means you might have to put a new clutch in.

I just talked to the guy and saturday after I test drove the car he got stuck in traffic and the clutch started slipping so he had it replaced yesterday.

I'm waiting to see what he gets on ebay he has reserve of 7,000
Ithought about offering if 5800 or 6000.

I also found a teal hard top m6 great int and body TA 5 bar wheels, flow master exhaust, 100,000 also for 4,000. What do you guys think of that?

Hmm, so what does it mean when your clutch sometimes grabs just as you release it from the floor, if you've been holding the pedal down for a while???

You mean it usually grabs near the middle or top, but if you've been holding it down and it grabs near the floor? Probably bad hydraulics, but I'm not sure.

That's what Im thinking...it's weird, the day of the big blackout i was stuck in HOT traffic for a while and had to drag the clutch to move...after that it made a funny noise for a while and i noticed the fluid was darker? That's when the problems started...it still shifts fine but if i hold the pedal down for a while THEN release it, it releases really close to the floor, other times it's not bad...

Sometimes it surprises me because I will chirp them when i release, and I dont mean to. it's annoying but liveable now, and im not sure how to flush and refill it (it's a mcleod adjustable master cylinder, and no i dont think it came out of adjustment).

If I knew how to drain and refill it, it would be no problem.
