Transmissions differ from car to car. If you take it for a test drive and it doesn't feel like it's slipping at all or shifting too hard, then you should be set. Just remember, transmissions can always be rebuilt and T56's can always be swapped in for A4's

I have a auto and I like it better then manual I test drove its your own preference on what you want. I never heard of a valve body cracking.

The autos are ok but most of the time wont hold up like the T-56 manual does. Keep looking, theres a car for everyone and yours is out there. Dont settle for less than what you want.

I spent over four weeks looking for a car. It was like GM made an obscenely low amount of M6's, or they are resold much less frequently. In the end I caved-in on a A4 that I paid about $1500-1700 less than what it's worth. Test drove 12-16 cars. I've been looking to resell this one to turn a profit and nab an M6. Can't find one in good enough shape for the price really, so it looks like I'm going M6 when I bury my 700R4.

Anyway just research the market and compare it to other cars you've driven. Autos get the job done just fine if the price is right.

Auto's are better for drag racing especially bracket racing. You'll have problems with both. The manuals have the usual clutch problem of any car of it's kind but the 10 bolt years break easy with manuals especially if you upgrade the clutch. Auto's don't have the rear breaking issue since the driveline is preloaded and not jolted but the 4L60 doesn't hold up well in a highly modded car. I went with an auto since mine was primarily for drag/bracket racing. I would be where I'm at ET wise without the A4. I'd prolly be on my 3rd or 4th 10 bolt by now but instead I'm still on the stocker.
