Re: LS1 rear in LT1 car

I put an LT1 diff into my LS1, and everything fit fine, BUT, I used my original axles since they were newer and the wheel lugs were still like brand new (vs. a little rusty on the older diff). Because I didn't use the LT1 axles, I can't confirm this, but some people have said on here that the LS1 axles are about ~1/8" (or maybe ~1/4"?) longer than LT1 axles, so if you use the longer/shorter ones than you need, the brakes may not line up properly (either the inside or the outside will rub and/or wear more).

SO, you can try it out and see, but you may have to use your original LT1 axles .

As long as the new rear is non traction control it is a direct swap. If the new rear comes with the brakes you can use them. You would only need to use LS1 emergency brake cables.

Re: LS1 rear in LT1 car

its a rearend only. im assuming it has TCS since its from an LS1 i thought pretty much all of them or at least most of them had it. anything i need to do if it has it? just leave it unhooked? also i plan on swapping backing plates and putting my stock brakes on it, but ill prolly keep the same LS1 axles if i can since they prolly have less miles on them then mine. since ill be taking out the axles will i need to change wheel bearings or anythign of that sort? like i said ive never done it and havent looked into it much so i figured id see what i can find out.thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.

My LS1 has 3-channel ABS fwiw.

If the one you found had different ABS than what you have, I would keep looking. You can't put a TCS rear in a 3-channel car.

idk what 3 channel and all that stuff is but i dont see much of a problem. as long as the brake lines hook up and it physically fits...please correct me if im wrong. BTW i pretty much already own it.

Re: LS1 rear in LT1 car

The problem with a TCS 4 chanel rear in a ABS 3 chanel car is the TCS rear has two abs sensors. One on each axle. The ABS rear has one sensor on top of the center section of the rear end. Everything will bolt up but you won't have anywhere to hook up the abs sensor. There are a lot of posts about this problem. Look in the computer forum for a recent one or do a search.
