Ls1 Rear In LT1
Ls1 Rear In LT1
Ok so i know this has been discussed numerous times, but all the answers havent been posted together, so i want to make this swap an easy deal.
1st must get same carrier
2nd backing plates must go with the style brakes you have (ls1 backing plates with lt1 backing plates)
Ive herd storeis about the backing plates not helping and even if you put the lt1 backing plates on that the pads wear out within months.
i just wana get clarified with what else is invloved in this swap from start to finish, if any one has a link to the thread ill post it in here for a "requirements to swap lt1 rear in ls1"
also ive herd somthing about the e-brake not connecting right?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Ls1 Rear In LT1
Get the same type of rear (ABS only or Traction control) that is in your car.
If you want to use your LT1 brakes you will have to swap the backing plates. The axle shafts are different lengths and should be swapped. I think that is why some people have brake wear problems if the axle shafts aren't swapped.
If you use LT1 brakes your emergency brake cables will work. If you use LS1 brakes you will need the LS1 cables.
I swapped a complete LS1 rear into my 94 LT1 including the LS1 brakes. It is a direct bolt in as long as you get the same type rear and the emergency brake cables with the bracket that attaches them to the lower control arm.

Re: Ls1 Rear In LT1
If you use LT1 brakes, you will need LT1 brake cables and likewise with the LS1 brakes. If you are swaping your LT1 brakes to the newer rear. All you need to do is make sure you get a rear that matches yours (traction control or no traction control). The brakes are the only difference between the LS1 and LT1 style rears.
Re: Ls1 Rear In LT1
O ok i think i got it, so if you want rear ls1 brakes u need the e-brake from an ls1, if you keep the stock lt1 brakes everthing should be fine only needing the correct carrier correct?
Re: Ls1 Rear In LT1
In my opinion the best way to do this swap is get a complete rear with brakes and swap it. Get the same type (abs or traction control) that is in your car now and it is just remove the old and replace with the new. You will need the emergency brake cables from the LS1 car because the LT1 ones won't work with LS1 brakes.
The emergency brake for the LS1 brakes is a small drum brake inside the rotor. For the LT1 it is built into the caliper.
If you want to use your LT1 brakes swap everything that attaches to the brakes to the new rear. I would check the axle lengths and if they are different then I would use the LT1 axles. You will have to have the axles out anyway to swap the brakes.
The reason for useing the LT1 axles is to keep the caliper centered over the rotor. I think the reason some people have trouble with brake wear when they use LS1 axles with LT1 brakes is because the different axle lenghts cause the caliper to be offset from the rotor.
