Low gearing better mpg?

I was wondering what the deal with gearing was. I see that 410s will give you better excel. with a worse mpg than say 2.XX.

What I was wondering was for some of these big power cars 600+hp that get like 10 mpg, whould it make them get a better mpg if they put in like a 1.XX (if they even go that low)?

I see some of these 400 hp cars that get next to no traction from a stop. So 600+ would be just about impossible to do.

So guess my main question is that can a lower gear be better for gas mileage and offset by big hp/tq?

If you have a high HP/TQ car, the last thing on your mind should be gas mileage.

Re: Low gearing better mpg?

I like the looks of first gen. camaro, the ls1 looks like a good motor to build and do a swap with.

My buddy has a 500 hp Mustang Cobra gets 18/24 mpg. That in my mind is good gas mileage for high hp!

Not looking for 40 mpg but dont want 5 either. Looking more of a in theory will this work.

Thanks

Performance tires (slicks) are used with high horsepower cars to get the 600 hp to the ground.
