looking for a strong tranny

well my trans is on its way out, i was thinking of going over to manual but it looks as if this car is going to be a street/strip car eventually, if i keep it. which transmissions can i put in my car w/o serious modifcations that are typically stronger. i am thinking about putting a trans brake in also, i was told the 4l60e cant handle a trans brake, how bout a 4l80e, i would also like to keep overdrive, i have a couple good shops that i know do excelent work and can build a good 4l60e, can some one give me some ideas or help me out a little?

How much horsepower are you planning on putting out at the flywheel? The 4L60E can can hold up very well when setup correctly, and when using the right torque converter. Let me know what questions you need answered about this?, and I will tell you how to do it right the first time.

Re: looking for a strong tranny

thanks for the reply,

well i plan on putting out more hp eventually but i need something capable of handeling about 600hp, i would like to get either a 3600 vig or yank converter, is it true about trans brakes on a 4l60e that they wont hold up?

i dont know much about transmissions but what high performance parts do they offer for the 4l60e? what are their week points and what parts are used to improve them, what upgrades are availabe for trans also. i would really like to have a fully built/ strong 4l60e but no manual valve body.

thanks again
