Limited Slip maintenance

Limited Slip maintenance

I heard there is maintanance on Limited Slip and if you dont do it you could loose it. Is there any type of maintenance on limited slip? Im talking about 4th gen just to let u know. Thanks.

I've never heard of loosing it...it will wear out...I'm not sure which unit you have, but I change the rear end fluid every year making sure to use a good quality gear oil...I use Red Line that already has the limited slip additive mixed in...you could just as easily use a petroleum based oil and the GM additive....I've heard pros and cons for both...my pinion seals leaks just a little with synthetic, but I hear that its common...I'm familiar with Eatons and Auburn units, the Eaton uses clutches which are rebuildable, and the Auburn uses a clutch/cone set up that they claim has to be built at the factory...BOTH will wear out over time...Not real familiar with the factory limited slip units...mine was only in the car for 200 miles...but I'm sure they aint the best and will wear out, quicker if you don't service the rear regularly...

anyone else heard of this? Thanks.

I think i heard this on Trucks! The episode where he showed how limited slip worked. maybe it only applies to the one he was showing? maybe i missed a important part? anyone else see it.
