limited slip?
limited slip?
I've had my rear looked at before and everything is in order.....but sometimes when making a 90 degree right turn and accelerating through it (usually from a stop), my inside tire will break traction and i get bad wheel hop. What gives?

Re: limited slip?
If your diff is still the stock Auburn, it is most likely shot. The limited slip additive actually makes it slip, to eliminate the clutch chatter you would hear otherwise. The 98's were the only LS1 f-bodies to get the crappy Auburn. 99-up have the Zexel Torsen T2. The T2's don't have clutches in them so they won't wear out. If I were you, I'd look for one of those on Ebay, or here in the classifieds section.
Re: limited slip?
That happens alot when you go into a corner. you have to let off the gas a little then power out of the turn. Nothing wrong with your limited slip just the way the Camaro handles. It will snap around on you if you are heavy on the gas. I take it you are new to this car and just learning how it handles.

Re: limited slip?
Because it is the passenger side wheel spinning in a right turn, you clutches are slipping in the differential. This is an idication that the Auburn is reaching its service limit. If nothing is grinding, whining or crunching, you may have a lot of time left with that differential. You just won't get the excellent two wheel peels you once had.
Believe it or not, by changing your gear oil to a non synthetic and NOT adding the friction modifier may help you. There is a chance your gear oil was replaced with a synthetic. This is something Auburn warns about.

Search the Auburn website and other sources to verify the need for the friction modifier. You will find, as I did, that it is necessary only if you are experiencing chatter.
Here's a swiped pic of what your right hand turns should look like:

Um, no. I've had this for 5 years. Just always wondered about it but never asked.

Read up on driving tips. This has nothing to do with a Limited Slip rear.

I know how to drive the car, I know how to swing the rear. I don't need driving tips. It has EVERYTHING to do with the limited slip.
I'm talking about making a 90 degree right turn from a stop. with LIGHT to MODERATE acceleration, and the inside wheel spins and hops. I posted other places and found that the Auburn unit in the 98's isn't that good, and with sticky street tires, what I'm experiencing is a common thing.
Problem solved, as it is normal behavior. I'm getting a 12bolt in a few months anyway with a much better limited slip. Issue sloved.
Re: limited slip?
A little inside tire chatter when making a sharp turn under a little throttle is normal for a posi. When turning, the wheels are spinning at unequal rates and adding the power makes the posi want to lock up (therefore trying to make both tires spin the same amount). So, one tire (inside tire) wants to try to break traction and spin as fast as the outside one. This is the way the posi has acted since the beginning of time. Normal. Ease off on the throttle and chatter will be reduced or go away.
