Labor Cost/Size of Converter
Labor Cost/Size of Converter
I searched this for a while but the questions are too varied
I was wondering what you guys paid for your converter/tranny cooler installation, i have been calling and the lowest i got was 300, then 550, then 600+, what is reasonable? is the 300 too low (such thing?)
Also, i might be wanted to go too large with my stall, my car is a headers LT1 with bolt ons and soon a tune, i was going to go 3400, i want a street machine that is driven frequently.

not sure of what brand, probably a slightly used one so i can save money, i was lookin at fuddle and vigilante. LS - im not very good at that stuff i would have no choice but to pay haha, how does your car run with those mods? (similar to mind) i watched a few videos and noticed the rpms dont really drop below 5k with a 32-34k stall
My car feels slow, unless I floor it from a stop, but that's normal for a stalled auto to feel that way.
I will tell you that I have raced my brother who owns a 96 formula and before the stall we'd be even on the launch, now it's no contest. I pull a couple cars right off the bat. It used to feel much more powerful, but now it's MUCH faster.
Best mod I've done yet.
3.42s/cutout/intake/tune/stall. My rpms usually stay in the 4-5k area.
Gas mileage is 14. But that's VERY short distance driving. (less than 2 miles per trip) and with a bad O2 sensor and running hood rich.

$250-300 for labor is about average. Don't cheap out on the converter. Buy a good unit, Yank, Vig. etc. Picking up a used one is not always a smart move. A used converter should be sent in to be cut open, cleaned out and checked. So your not really going to save that much money, by the time you pay for that and shipping.
Don't be afraid to get at least a Vig. 3200 or Yank 3600. And don't forget a good trans cooler, and a shift kit or the shifts will feel a little soft.

You answered your own question when you said you noticed the rpms jump up and stay there in the video. It helpsthe car launch harder (with traction)and makes it faster from a roll. My personal opinion, skip over the Fuddle. Yank or Vig. if you don't know of any other quality converters. Just remember Vig. under rates there stall speeds a bit.
