Post KTRE 12-bolt tips/advice welcome

I got a good deal on a KTRE 12-bolt from a generous member in here and it needs to be rebuilt (at least new ring and pinion). He said something about the ABS reluctor gear needing to be sanded down thinner to not cause unwanted extra backlash that trashed the current 3.90 gears.

This won't go in for at least a month or so, therefore I'm reading up a bit on tips since I don't know much about rears (car rears anyway lol).

I've decided on 3.73 gears and it will be OEM GM or Motive/GM for quietness and strength (Motive is probably best option).

I read that it's best to use RATECH solid shims instead of crush sleeves.

This unit has:

- 31 spline Moser axles.
- Fresh Eaton Posi with 800# springs and 22 clutch plates.
- C-clips eliminated
- Aluminum cover / girdle
- 1350 billet yoke
I'll have to quiz the seller a bit more as to mileage on bearings and what not, but does anyone have any other "upgrade suggestions" like the RATECH solid shims? Anything inexpensive like that we can do to make it better while reinstalling ring and pinion is a no brainer.

I've read that Amsoil is really good stuff for it.

I know it's extremely important that backlash, depth, and angle are set properly to insure quietness and proper wear. Also I'm aware of the break in procedures recommended.

Whatever else I'm missing for this KTRE please chime in if you've got anything, thanks!
