knocking when in reverse only

knocking when in reverse only

I have a 96 camaro standered shift 5 speed...whenever i place the car in reverse im hearing a loud knocking...as the drive shaft is making its rotation....had different opinions...please help...where do i start for proper repair???

Maybe the bolts that go from your flywheel to your torque converter are loose

no T/C it's a five speed, but if it's during the shift you coulda wiped reverse, or somethin in the linkage.

but my bet is on the tranny mount, when i tore mine, the driveshaft would bang up on the tranny tunnel during hard acceleration, and when i hit the brakes after being in reverse

other possibilities are

the rear gears jumping, if you knocked a couple of teeth off your ring gear during some wheelhop or rough terrain the rear end will make some knocky kinda noises

the next most likely thing is the u joints, either a blown u joint, seized, or maybe the bolts that hold it in backed off

um, the inner tube of the driveshaft

crappy engine mounts.... axle bearings...
