Just installed 4:10s: Excessive whine when turning: plz HELP!
So i just got done installing richmond 4:10s in my TA. They whine at low rpms, but when you turn right, either a sharp turn or even going around a curve, they make this god-awful-ear-piercing-howling noise. What could be the cause of this? I installed new bearings (except axle bearings) and used asolid pinion spacer if that makes any difference. thanks

Did you set the backlash correctly? This would be my first guess, and might turn into a bigger problem than just a high pitched whine =/
Re: Just installed 4:10s: Excessive whine when turning: plz HELP!
i believe the backlash is correct- it was about .008 and it called for .010 +/- .004 . im going to tear it apart today and reset everything. i just wasn't sure why it would make the real loud noise when just turning right- i thought maybe that had to do with something specific and someone would know

problem solved. i took the cover off the rear this morning and noticed that there was a little play left and right. i reshimmed the carrier bearings to fix the slop, rechecked the backlash, (set at .006) and everything is a- ok
