i have heard yes and no. should i just install the axles and go or redo the rearend? some say check backlash and lighten the load on the side bearings by removing shims?

Should be good to go out of the box. I didn't have any problems with my moser but thats not to say every rear is setup perfect. If your gonna check it, NOW is the time to do it before putting the rear in. And if you do pull it apart and go through it, i'd put a solid pinion spacer in it. The crush sleeve has a tendency to get mashed a bit, especially if your doing some hard launch track duty, and your setup may drift out a bit.

The stock DS is too long. You will need a new DS (or if you have a high quality shaft it might be worth having it shortened). Even if the stock shaft were the right length, if you need a 12-bolt you need a DS that is stronger than the stocker, IMHO.

What Rich said. I went with a Denny's Nitrous shaft. Had to get the 3150 yokes since thats what I had in the 12 bolt and went with a billit front yoke also.... after I twisted the splines in the standard yoke i originally got with the Denny's shaft.
