just got my car back from stall-3.73 install

I just got my car back from the shop that installed my 2600 vigilante stall and 3.73 gears... I cant really get on it too much cause i gotta wait for the break in period but it shifts kinda soft i think... is this cause of the programing? i know i need to get the 3.73's calibrated.. but does the pcm need to be tuned for the stall? thanks adam

It's probably shifting soft because you're "babying" the car right now? In my car, when I installed lower gears, the shifts felt a little more harsh afterwards. What was used to re-cal your computer?? Did you previously have any electronic "shift firmness" set that's maybe been taken away?

As far as the stall, there shouldn't be any programming necessary, because a high stall is simply a physical/mechanical change in the converter that's set by the internals of it, and can't be controlled by a computer.

i think something with the converter is making it shift soft.. maybe not wide open though.. i guess it doesnt matter going slow.. but my bbk 52mm throttle body messed with my shifting and then anding the converter i think it messed with it more.. maybe after i program the bbk it will be fine.. dunno never have drivin a stalled car so idont know whats its supposed to be like.. btw about what speed am i really going if my speedo says 45?its not recalibrated yet.. but ion is going to do it thanks adam

A higher stall will make the shifts softer. Throw in a shift kit and it'll get back to normal or shift harder than normal(depending on how you set it up)

Re: just got my car back from stall-3.73 install

I had the same issues when I did me 3000rpm Vig. and 3.42 install. Although the car could easily go up in smoke off the line(and spin for 30-40ft if I wanted) vs either not spinning at all, or only for 3ft or so before the install. It didn't seem to pin me in the seat like it used it. I'll contribute most of that to the loss in traction, but it still bothered me. After having the setup in for a short time now I still don't notice it being much faster. I gotta say though, this thing walks HARD up top. That's where the whole setup really shines. And I know for a fact it is much faster. Just didn't feel that way. After the break in period, go take her on a few 100mph jaunts, you'll notice the difference.
