Installing new 12 bolt... couple ?'s

I will be installing my new Strange 12 bolt this weekend, and just wanted to know if there is anything special to to or is it basically unbolt the old and bolt in the new??

Also, I ordered it with the 1350 yoke. Do I need a different u-joint to fit the yoke or does the stock one fit. If I do need a different one, what would I need?

thanks

Mine was sent with a special u-joint that connects the 1350 yoke to the standard driveshaft. It was included in a small cardboard box with the u-bolts.

If you ordered your 12 Bolt with the 3 channel ABS option you will have to do something to connect it. I fabricated a metal bracket and used a weathertight connector to hook it up to the car. I have heard from guys who have hard wired it too.

I had to slightly modify my torque arm mounting plates, but it is a Global West Traclink unit. I dont think you should have any problems if you have a stock torque arm.

You will also need some spacers for the sway bar if you ordered the aluminum diff. cover. I used 1/4" thick aluminum plates under the brackets. The loading screw on the passenger side of the diff cover was also hitting the panhard bar reinforcment brace. I had to make a little room for it.

Thats about it regarding the install. Let me know how it goes and if you get any gear whine after testing it

I have an online writrup on the Strange 12-bolt install. You can rotate the stock sway bar brackets to allow the sway bar to clear the aluminum cover.... its covered in my writeup... notch the bracket slot that locates the bracket on the axle housing and prevents it from rotating.

That is a 5 year old writeup, so they might have changed a few features by now.

The problem is that when the body drops, the "V" portion of the swaybar moves up, and it hits the "LPW" logo on the bottom of the aluminum cover. Did Strange "delete" the LPW cover from their "standard" package? When I bought mine in 1999, it was included in the base price.

The problem was also alleviated when I installed the Spohn "race" rear sway bar:

the standard cover is now a chrome cover without a drain plug. You can get the optional alluminum support cover. I just went with the standard cover for now to save a few dollars. I plan on changing covers when I do the first fluid change.
