i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

A week ago I lost my speedo and od/trip.
I tore my dash apart tested my computer and vss
Plug and all range from 2.89 to 3.15 volts I will
Have to double check my vss plug but I have a sinking
Feeling that my worm gear in tail shaft is fubar

Is it easy to pull tail shaft?
Torque arm d/s and tail shaft is all that comes off right?
Is this a dealer only fix on the gears?
Does anybody know what I need for a 93 z28 m6 with I thing 3 something
Gears

Everything else works and checks out and I do get code 24

i do believe that you t56 has a vss sensor in it and not a worm gear. the vss sensor is easy to replace. take off the one bolt that holds it on and pull it out. I have a spare sitting in my closet

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

The 93 T56 has a gear driven VSS. All other years have a reluctor wheel and magnetic pickup. The 93 VSS also connects directly to the speedo, not through the PCM to the speedo, which explains why you need to swap drive and/or drive gears to adjust for rear axle changes in a 93.

Wtf? Are you saying I'm supposed to have a gear going into
To the tail shaft because all I'm getting is these butt plug
Looking vss. With magnetic pick up. Same as what was originally
In it.

Let me recheck. I know the 4L60 has the gears. The T56 may still have the reluctor.

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

I found this thread that shows the gear driven VSS was only used in the 4L60. The T56 maintenance manual shows that the tailshaft can have either a reluctor or a drive gear, so its confusing.

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

When I checked the hole. I felt hard steel and a grooved
Slot

And jfyi. My meter only reads the voltage in mv. So that
Was why I was getting 29 and 60 something. I forgot to
Move my decimal point lol

I guess my last confirmation is to jack stand my car and
Get the wheels moving and see what moves and what doesn't huh?

One more question

Is the reverse 5th and 6th gear solenoid tied or somewhat connected
With the vss

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

Ok now I'm thinking too hard and its sad that I have never
Had a car kick my butt. Like this.

So does code 24 mean circuit/wire where the gear is irrelevant? Cause I seen
Two other codes pertaining to the vss and one specifically talks bout sensor and gear

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

DTC 24 indicates a problem with the VSS electrical circuit. I got that code when I unplugged mine once.

The reverse lockout solenoid is controlled by the PCM, based on whether the car is moving, based on the VSS input. There is no 5th/6th gear solenoid.

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

Thanks. Now it makes sense why 5th/6th gear feels looser than normal

Being a thinker I see either circuit or I'm getting bad vss sensors although
From orielly and advance. Gm dealer said chuck them???

If cruise speedo and ecm fails it has to be where it branches off to the three all the way to sensor
Plug. Once rain stops I'm all over it. If not I'm putting a tom-tom in there lol

Re: i think i confirmed it but wanted to ask a few questions

Ok. I have traced the vss wires. Purple. And yellow. And my meter jumps around
All over the place. But there was one other yellow that I think goes to the icm or cruise
And it holds 3.0 v. Is this pointing to my computer
