I don't friggin' believe this

After weeks of problems with my engine I finally got everything fixed, and finally found a really good tune for it as well.
Now it looks like my trans went. It takes me forever to get out of second, when it does I don't have third. a couple times when I reved it up I got third but not always.
I checked the dipstick with the engine hot and running and it was dry, I also saw a good amount of smoke coming out of the dipstick. Thinking I might not have screwed in the trans cooler lines tight enough, I checked for fluid around them. Bone Dry. I added fluid and it didn't seem to make a difference.
My brother said the servo might have went. what do you guys think?
is there a way to test the servo?

Ouch... too little or no fluid means a burned up pump usually. Hope it isn't too bad. Good luck bro

Ouch... well, thats not what I wanted to hear but you're probably right.

Anybody got part numbers and prices for a pump and a rebuild kit?

Check out Pro-bult he is on the site here. He built my trans and has all the parts you may need. Great guy to deal with and he knows his s#it.. Check out his web site @ Pro-built.com or 700r/4l60.com one of the 2 should work.

Re: I don't friggin' believe this

Is there any possibility that it would be the servo?

I don't know too much about manual transmissions. I've been told that it ALWAYS screws up on modified engines and thats what the Corvette servo is so popular.

How would I confirm this?

Manual? Manuals have syncros, not servos. The servos are hydraulic pistons of some sort, and in the 4L60 they're there to apply the band in 2nd and 4th gear. And i think it serves to redirect fluid to other parts of the tranny, but not sure. What other gears do you have? Does 4th gear work? Does the converter lock once you get above 47mph?

I meant auto..... I type faster then I think i guess

I have first second and reverse. I'm pretty sure I have 4th. I think it's just third that I'm missing.

Re: I don't friggin' believe this

I"ve had my Tranny rebuilt 7 times in 3 years damn junk 4l60es
By 4 diff tranny shops , Thats why im going 350 turbo alot cheaper, And no I didnt get a $5,000 4l60e rebuild every time It was rebuilt, In my case Id rather live with 3 gears than with 2 with the 4l60e.

Btw: Eff Mine just went out after I tuned it, the tranny lost 3rd and 4th

lol it's gonna cost a good chunk of change. Here's my old posts from back in '03:

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hts+conversion

Clickity there and then the link i later posted. That's my experience with it. But 23k miles later the 6-speed took a dump on me, so the auto is back in there. Now i wish i would've just left the auto in it to begin with.... ~$2800 gone down the drain. I'm going to rebuild it later on though.

Try a CPT build and i'm sure that you wont have the same results as your past Trannies.

I know, maybe I'll just give it up and fix my A4.

Just don't feel right repairing a transmission that is only rated for 350 ft/lbs
when thats probably in the neighborhood of what I'm putting to the wheels now.
Does anyone know of a good strengthing rebuild kit?

Re: I don't friggin' believe this

If you used the exact same tune as on Brent's website, it could be the reason why this happened. That tune has a considerable amount of shift firmness (partly due to the 58mm TB) added and the shift points aren't really something I would use on a hotcam car.
