hurst Billet plus install

i just ordered a hurst billet plus shifter for my 96 Z28. would it be a good idea to drain the tranny before, and then put fresh stuff in the shifter opening before i get the shifter in there?

it'd be easy too do!
depending on when the last time it was changed, it might be a good idea!
