Howto combine LT1 and Tremec T-3550 (TKO 500) ?

Hi All!

I'm sorry to bother you guys with this, but I just can't find the info I seek , so I thought this was a good place to ask questions. Bare with me, I'm kind of a newbie to this too...

I have an LT1 engine from a -95 Impala SS w/o the automatic trans (the engine will be used in a light Cobra kit-car). And I wish to mount a Tremec T-3550 (TKO 500 GM style, acording to the salesman). Now I'm confused about the other stuff I need, and what I actually can use...

I realize that I need the following (at least):
* Bellhousing
* Pilot bearing
* Throwout bearing
* Flywheel
* Clutch
* Slave cylinder
* Fork, rod, pivot ball

But the question is... What parts will fit? Can I use a second hand bellhousing (ifso, what kind?) like wise for the clutch stuff, flywheel and so on... (I'm going for new bearings, possibly new clutch)

What should I look out for if I go with the Tremec. What are the pitfalls? What parts won't fit... Well just, please help me out will you :-)

Regards, Hans B

Talk to D&D racing about this. They know all about T5s, T56s, and Tremecs.

You should be able to get it in kit form just about for a 3rd gen f body, so you'd just use a stock T5 V8 bellhousing and clutch setup.

Ahh, now we're getting somewhere... Thats interesting, since I heard the GM version of the Tremec is a "Bolt on" for a T5...
3rd gen f-body, I'll search for info on those
hmm, you don't happend to have some nice links to stuff on a on-line store that will fit?

Hmm, it turns out that the gearbox is a TKO I, not a TKO 500... Are the differances between those boxes purely of internal nature? Or are the bolt pattern different, shaft length and so on...?

Post Parts?...

Correct me if I'm wrong but do you think this would work...:

Bellhousing
Lakewood 15020, from what I've been reading the 15020 has two boltpatterns, one that's 17 degrees rotated counter clockwise, and one "standard mount"

Clutch Fork
F-body, 84-92 (GM 14075725)

Clutch
CenterForce DF161056
Camaro/Firebird 84-92, 10½", 1 1/8" x 26 spline

Clutch hydraulics
Should be able to get this from an F-body wreck or replacement GM parts?

Flywheel
I'm guessing here. But the choice of flywheel should be based on three things
* Bellhouse size
* Starter position on the block
* Clutch diameter (unsure of this)
If I'm right I should be able to go with a post '86 (since I have a '95 LT1), 168 tooth flywheel for my car? (gotta check the block if it has two positions for the starter though + make sure the flywheel is for an externaly balanced engine.)

Throwout bearing
CTF-N1716
Summits recommendation...

You think it would work? Or what parts are wrong + missing?
