Re: how to upgrade to 3.73?

That means going to a lower gear ratio. The lower you go, the better acceleration you get, but you lose some of your top-end speed. It is done by removing the gears from the rear end and swapping in new ones. It is possible on an automatic. If you have 2.73's, then you have a 2 series carrier. I'm pretty sure you can get a 3.73 for a 2 series carrier, but that's as low as you can go. If you want lower (ie 4.10's) then you'll need to get a 3 series carrier.

If you go from 2.73s to 3.73s you're gonna look like this guy --->

It's not expensive at all.

Re: how to upgrade to 3.73?

you have to remove the gears out of the differential on the rear axle, swap in some new bearings and parts, and the new gears. then you have to recalibrate the speedo and shift points to accomodate the gear change.

technically i thought it was illegal to change rear gear ratios according to some kind of emissions laws (unless done by a dealer). altough i know alot of shops do it.

do a google search for gear swaps...i'm sure there are some pictorials.

Where are you located? You should be able to ask around and find someone that sets gears up on the side. It will be cheaper that way. I'd say a good setup guy will cost $150-$200 just for labor, but there are a few key things that have to be done and more than likely you don't have the special tools to do them. Oh, and you will definitely love it. Say goodbye to 50 mph in 1st gear . Is your car an A4 or M6? Either way the speedo will need calibrated and possibly the shift points (A4) as stated above. That's an extra chunk of change unless you have the software to do this.

a4....automatic 4 speed trans
m6....manual 6 speed trans

need any more help?

j/k

as for the difficult plugs, remove the motor mount bolt and jack the motor up 2"...you can get to all the plugs with ease

BY THE WAY
put a signature together so we have some clue as to the year and options on your car. it will GREATLY affect some suggestions on mods.

we don't even know what year the car is

Hp Impact = 0
Torque = 3.73 /2.73 = 37% more

Re: how to upgrade to 3.73?

The torque/horsepower difference will not really matter. The difference is not that much. And it's not almost double the torque. Double the torque would be 100% increase. 37% is a little less than half of what you have now.

For horsepower;
