How streetable is a SPEC Stage III?

With my new heads and cam package, I noticed my clutch is starting to slightly slip. Im wanting to upgrade to a spec but dont know if i should go with a stage 2 or 3. I may want to do more mods later(BROKE NOW) Maybe a little spray. Can a Stage III be driven easily on the street? How much power can Stage II hold? Thanks.

If you plan to spray ....go with the stage 3. I have the stage 3 carbon. It takes some getting use too.....but after the 300 mile or so breakin it is very streetable but certainly not as easy to drive as stocker. You will be very happy with the way it holds.....mine has never slipped with 30 or so passes on it....most of those with spray.

IMO it is very streetable, i am also 19 though so i suppose it may not be to someone who is 50. You have to slip it a little more to get it to take off smooth but it can be done easily with a little practace.

It is streetable, but does grab very quick. Once broke in, it just takes some getting used to. I have broken 2 Stage 3 clutches within about a 9 month period with no track use on nearly stock car. The tiny little 4-cylinder clutch springs (true! I found out through some sources) that they use are the problem, not the pads or disk. There seems to be about a 50/50% success rate with them, some people have no problems, others do. Personally if I go back to a Spec clutch in the future it will be either a C4 Stage 2 (unsprung) or the Stage 4 (also unsprung), because their springs are made to handle much less torque (aka 4-cyl) than even a stock disk.

Im planning on going with the stage IV, everyone seems to think that is drives exactly like the stage 3, but is alot stronger.

I hope it has enough slip to not gernade my stock rear right off.

I have heard the same about the Stage 4, that it drives just the same as the Stage 3, but without having to worry about the tiny springs cracking and breaking.

Exactly. My Stage III took roughly 400-450 miles to break in and when it does, YOU KNOW IT. Stage IV is my next route as it is the same as stage III but with NO springs to worry about. Peace of mind is a huge factor with me when it comes to the right clutch. No chatter AFTER break in.

Very streetable.. just make sure the rear-end is up to par.

If you want a good secret don't get the entire Stage 3 clutch ... get just the disk and go with the SLP Drilled Pressure plate... I'm telling you it's a F34king beast of a set up. Billet FLy wheel + stage 3... plus drilled PP = one helluva ride...

Well for the STage 3 and SLP Drilled PP it's about 500.00 the same as buying the STage 3 flat out... maybe $459.00 ... I forgot I had rush shipping on mine... but hte FLywheel is like 250 from SPEC. It's easily streetable once you ge tthe car rolling...but going slow it's a B*tch. The clutch is really grabby.... and SPEC's soft pedal makes it annoying at times. Sometimes the car may jump or so but it'll get easier once you learn the clutch... from a roll on the highway it's amazing. I'd say as long as your above 20 mph the stage 3 is fine... below that it's tricky... with the PP and FLy whl setup...The car Revs quicker but not too quick to be a problem. I do get into the crappy powerband of the Stock cam quicker... can't wait till I get something real inbetten the heads. Spec redesigned the stage 3 a jillion times and they are good on thier warranties... when I had an issue with my stage 2 they got on it so quick I kept callign them and asking them were my clutch was...and they couldn't find it at the shop... because they got it in and out so quickly they didn't even remembr having it. SPEC has the best custoemr service I know of.. so if there is a stage 3 issue... don't worry about it... I"m sure they'll fix it. So far after 2K miles mines runnin just fine.
