How Much Hp Will A Stock T56 Handle???

I have a 6'' rod 381 i am putting together. I should have about 420 to 430 rwhp, and i will be spraying 150 to 200 shot on top of that. I can rebuild the trany myself. The question is: how much can the stock t56 hold? do i need to upgrade any parts? If so what parts do i need to buy?

Driving techinque has a lot to do with it. My friend and I both have 600 rwhp F-bodies. He likes to speed shift, I don't. He's had his tranny rebuild (fork issues), mine's still original with 150K miles.

I'd be more worried with the clutch and rear end before the T56. Don't know what your running in that department, but if your gonna run those numbers on stock stuff and spray out of the hole with sticky tires, 1st, you'll sit at the line bouncing it off the limiter on a stock clutch cause it's burning up. Then when you get that fixed, the 10 bolt will break. Thennnnn, when you get that fixed, i'd start worrying about the tranny. If your beefy in the clutch and rear end department, then you might want to consider a rebuild with at least the Viper upgrades. And like what was stated above, driving habits have a lot to do with it also. I've heard of stock T56's holding up pretty well to lots of power though.

My stock t56 didn't like 4k clutch dumps with a spec stage 4.

I side stepped the clutch with 390rwtq on ET streets and broke my rear end, drive shaft and snapped the output shaft on the t56.

It really depends on how you drive though and how rough you get with parts.

My buddy was maybe putting down 400rwhp w/ a blower and a ford 9" and he would blow 3rd out of it within a month.. but he was beating the living daylights out of it... he never did make it to the track though
