How many Qts. of Tranny fluid to refill my 6M??
Even though they say it isn't necessary I'm going to drain my 6-speed and put fresh fluid in it...how much is there exactly in the tranny. I don't want to overfill it.....also, my shifter will be out so can I just pour it from the top? seems easier than doing it from the fill hole on the side of the tranny....

I got the Dexron III because that is what the manual said to get and said to use anything else could damage the tranny. You say the Mobil 1 is better??

The mobil 1 synthetic ATF is the best you can get. It is still thin enough for the clearances, and you get the added protection of better lubrication from the syn. You will also be able to put down a very little amout of more rear wheel hp from reduced friction.

Say what? First off the T-56 holds 3.8 Quarts of ATF fluid. It doesn't matter what fluid you run, as long as it is dexron III, you'll be fine. You won't see any horsepower gain from running Mobil 1 Syntethic ATF...

well which is it? 2.5 or 3.8 Qts.? The guy at the dealership acted like 3 Qts would be more than enough...can anyone straighten this out?

To clarify this, I just consulted my service manual, and it indicates 8 pts. Well, if there is 4 pints to a quart, like I said, I take app. 2.5 quarts. And as far as the synthetic goes, it will reduce friction which has been dyno proven by I think someone on this board to equate into a minimal hp gain to the tire. 1-2 maybe, but hey, that not the issue, synthetic will reduce wear from reducing friction. Hope this helps, man, 3 qts and you will be fine

just wanted to say good idea on changing it
i know i didnt have to do mine either (it's at 51k) but i did anyways and it did smell a bit burnt
either way, it's good preventive maintenance

Okay people here's the final tally.........2 pints is one quart, therefore, if the owners manual states that it takes 8 pints then our trannys need 4 quarts, that's it....4 quarts....not 2.5, not 3.8, 4, 4, 4 quarts....Thank God I double and triple checked with other people or I'd be needed a new tranny by now...

sorry, that's right. it's about 4 quarts
i did it two years ago and got confused cuz my friend's Tacoma tranny takes 2.5 and we did that last year.
put the car on 4 jack stands to level, the fluid will dribble out of the top fill hole when full
