after reading the forums on the 4L60E i was wondering whats the highest mileage y'all have obtained on a stock unit? i'm at 132,000 (knock on wood) on 94Z and just wanted to hear from others.

It's all in how you drive the car. Obviously if you baby it along and not rag on it, it can last as long as the motor if not longer as long as proper matienence is done to the car on a regular basis.

Your mileage may vary

Mine was only good for several dozen passes at HRP and about 240,000 miles. Changed the fluid and filter every 50k miles and added an auxillary cooler at about 50k miles. Only engine mods are a FIPK and high flow cat. Was good for 13.7 @ 101.

Its at 95K right now and still runs pretty strong. It has its occasional hiccup where it won't shift and it will redline. I see a phone call being made to Frank sometime in the future.

I think mine made it to 70K... but that was some hard times at the track with a custom shift kit that maked 2nd shift so hard it kicked the rear-end out when the rest of the car was all stock. One day it shifted into 2nd at WOT kick me back in my seat and BANG! .. end of that tranny. Shattered the input shaft, twisted both of the ends off and cracked the case in about 5-8 different spots, thew the whole thing in the garbage it was that bad... lol.. good times!

man correct me if i'm wrong but for all the blow ups on them i read about on here and other forums if you maintain the trans and dont run it hard al the time shouldn't you get more longevity?

just saying because dad has 96 chevy pickup with same trans and motor (well the 350 vortec) but he's got 212k on same trans.

Mine's just short of 150k now... I just changed the filter... A little metallic sludge on the magnet, but the rest of the pan and everything else looked clean...

I don't race and generally cruise around with a pretty light foot...

Well, mine died with just over ~60k on the clock . BUT, I've been extremely abusive to my car since I've had it .

I'm pretty convinced that what really killed mine was taking it out on a road course with the A4. At the time, I had the 4.10's in the back (which I blew on the track as well! ) and only ~2 weeks later, 2nd gear started to slip . Thing was, almost the entire track, I was running in 2nd gear (come off a corner, punch it, drops to 2nd ..... pull down the straight, just going for 3rd, but nope, slow down, punch it ... back into 2nd!! ).

So I swapped to a T56 .

But until then, I had run dozens of 1/4 mile passes, with everything from the factory 2.73's upto 4.10's in the back, on a set of DR's and everything, and the tranny seemed to hold up fine otherwise (until the road course).

And fwiw, I had a B&M Trans-pak installed, and (for a short while) a tranny cooler as well.

mine is at 157,000 right now, with hard times in its past and future, I do think tho it is starting to slip 2-3 shift just a little bit, it did get a shift kit a year ago, and for the past year i have been running Amsoil Super Shift trans fluid. So far the trans has lasted 32,000 miles more than the engine lasted
