I have a newly installed Art Carr 700r4 manual valvebody transmission, with their billet 9.5" torque converter.

I have my autometer electric trans temp guage hooked up with the sender in the test port on the drivers side of the transmission.

how hot is too hot of a reading from there? I have a b&m cooler on it as well. I'm probably alright, but I am VERY paranoid and careful with the tranny.

anywhere under 200 degrees should be ok for most driving conditions...brief spikes over 200 at the track and stuff PROBABLY wont hurt but ya never know....2 good ways to shave a couple extra degrees are bolt on a finned, deep pan and set the cooling fans to turn on earlier and get more air moving through the cooler up front....personally i would try to keept the temp below 190....

Ok, that makes me feel better. I had it out driving pretty hard around town, it got up to about 210 breifly. Then I immediately took it on the freeway and it cooled to a shade under 180.

thats not too bad but 210 is definitely too hot for any sustained driving...if your at 180 on the highway it measn ur probably at around 195 or so in traffic....get a deep pan....i picked up a BBK pan for 130 from summit....finned and 3 extra quart capacity....helped out a lot....
