How does your Spec clutch drive?

How does your Spec stage 3 drive? Is there much chatter? I want objective opinions here, not personal biases please.

I'm looking for a streetable (subjective, I know) clutch that can hold 400-450 rwhp on slicks.

All input is appreciated.

a stage 3 clutch will turn your transmission into spare parts. LOL I'm using the ls-6 clutch in my car, and haven't had a problem yet. I'd say if you're only looking at 400-450 rwhp check out the stage II

Can you point out the objective part in your reply?

Re: How does your Spec clutch drive?

Mine was rough at first, it has quieted down a lot though since it's nice and broken in. I drive my car everyday, I dont know how well it will hold with slicks and 450rwhp but it bites hard in every gear. My suggestion to you would be to get a 4, it's the same plate but w/o the springs in the hub which have a tendency to come off, that will be my next clutch if this one ever wears out.

LS6 clutch wont work in a LT1.

I have had 2 stage 3's both ceramic and they grab and chatter in reverse. That the nature of a bad *** performance. If you want something you have to give up something.

i agree, i have a stage 4 in my car and i love it. its very grabby and chatters quite a bit still (its only got 500 miles on it so far) but i know that it is going to hold up to whatever i throw at it.

No problems with the spec stage 3 yet. Had my M6 rebuilt. The clutch is better after some miles. It does lockup solid. You can really hammer the trans.

Re: How does your Spec clutch drive?

i have a stage 3 on my z and at first it was pretty rough and chattered a lot, but after about 1300 miles now and multiple 11sec passes it has tamed down a bit. holds up very well to my 517 rwhp...

JUST ONE TIP do NOT go on a little road trip to rt 66 to watch and break in your new 200 mile clutch on the way there, when there is construction and stop and go traffic. I ALMOST KILLED EVERYONE it was so agrivating!! IT GRABS LIKE HELL.

My stage 4 ceramic drives pretty well, but does chatter alot.

its great until you get stuck on stop and go traffic.

Holy crap that is funny.

A spec 3 will not break your transmission. It drives OK, but any aggressive single disc clutch will be grabbier and have a tendency to chatter somewhat at lower RPMs. It is something you get used to. My girlfriend drove my car and she didn't have any problems with it. She only drove it for a few minutes and was already used to it. I run an older Spec 3 carbon. Since it has seen a lot of abuse it is worn out after 2 years and I plan on replacing it with another spec 3 x-pad. Mcleod single disc isn't bad either but I can't stand their hydraulic master. Twin disc is nice, but heavy.

Re: How does your Spec clutch drive?

I ended up going with a Spec stage 4.

Nic, did you upgrade master cylinders as well or just upgrade to '01+ slave?
