Question How do you remove the ring gear?

What is the easiest way to remove the ring gear off the Carrier?
I'm putting a posi carrier in my 1971 Camaro and I have know idea what to use to get the gear off without damaging the carrier.
Thanks,
Chris G.

Loosen all the bolts off, but leave them partially threaded in, and tap the ring gear off by hitting the bolts. Just go a little at a time, and keep un-threading the bolts more as you need to. This should work the gear off the carrier no problem .

Thanks I will give it a try.
I was also told that I could heat the gear with a propane torch and it would come off too.

Well I got the ring gear off the posi carrier.
Funny thing is that the gears are not a matching set.
So I have a 4.555555555555555 gear set.
The ring gear has 41 teeth and the pinion has 9 teeth.
I was not going to use those gears any way just the posi carrier.
I guess I can make a picture frame out of the ring gear.
Thanks agine,

Chris G.

Yep know problem.
When I got my 1971 Camaro the guy gave me a use Positraction Carrier witch I wanted to use so I had to take the gear off it.
I might change them down the road but not now.
Is there a way to tell if these gears are a matching set?
Thanks,

Chris G.

Did the diff work?? 41/9 is the correct combo for 4.56's, so I wouldn't suspect anything wrong . If the diff did not turn, or made noise or something, then perhaps they might not be a matched set. Otherwise, I wouldn't think there's a problem with it .

Well I haven't put it in yet I might do it tomorrow.
As long as the Positraction works all should go well I just have to swap out the ring gear from the non Positraction carrier that's in the car right now.
I was doing 100 foot burn outs with the one wheel wounder so I hope it hooks up or does a 100 foot two wheel bur out.
Thanks again,

Chris G.
