Holy crap! Look how bad my old clutch was....

To start, I bought the Z 2 weeks ago knowing it had a vibration that I highly suspected was a warped flywheel. I was able to get the car for cheap enough to justify buying it in that condition.

Since the budget was tight, I ended up just going with an OEM replacement I found on eBay for $313 including flywheel.

Yesterday was the day I took the car to my mechanic. He let me help which saved me $150 in labor and made the project doable in 9 hours - 4 of which were removing the trany from the bell housing, and then the bellhousing from the block.

After we got the old clutch out, the carnage was astounding.... http://www.redlineenterprises.com/te...h/flywheel.jpg

The flywheel was so badly warped that when I laid it on the concrete, I could rock it back and forth about 1/16" each direction. I could put one hand on each side and make it go 'tink tink tink tink" on the concrete!

While I was under there I did the $0.20 Radio-Shack Skip Shift elimination. (Well, I ended up doing the mod to the reverse-lockout solenoid and not realizing it until the car was all back together. OOPS! - so I fixed it this morning in my apt. parking lot.)

Now the car is smooth as silk! I just have to baby it for the next 480 miles - and wouldnt you know in the last 20 miles I've had more rice rev at me than in the previous 2 weeks I've owned it. Murphey's Law at it's finest.....

4 hours to Remove the transmission and bellhousing

I can have it all pulled out in under a hour doing it in my drive way on my back. I can the entire job done in under 3 hrs.

Was it the mechanics first time removing a RWD tranny??

Not trying to bash anybody but it seems you caused yourself some time and money that was unneeded.

It was his first Camaro, yes, and one of his first RWD. Plus the dowel pins on the bellhousing didn't wanna let loose for anything, even with 3 of us (he, myself, and a friend of his) reaming on, prying on, pulling on and cussing at it. He wasn't a fully experienced mechanic which is why he got paid $20/hr instead of $56 like an experienced mechanic with a lift & tranny jack would have got paid.

Plus I learned alot by him letting me help too, which is worth the extra time to me.
