hitting rev limiter on an A4

Hey guys, I'm in the process of buying a beautiful 1994 Z28 convertible. The car has 77000 miles and from what the guy said it has 4.11 rear end. I test drove it and when I floored it all the way it would bounce off the rev limiter a couple of times. When accelerating at a little less than WOT it shifts perfectly as well as in normal driving.
My question is if this is a sign of the tranny about to blow as I've read on some of the searches or something else? The guy told me that I should get a performance chip to correct the problem.
Any help would be appreciated as I already put a down payment for him to keep it for me. sorry about the length. Thanx in advance.

Re: hitting rev limiter on an A4

If the PCM has not been programmed for the gear change then that is the problem have the PCM reprogrammed for the 4.11s and it should be fine.

the tranny probably doesnt have anything. Just get it repogramed for the different gears. Hit hits the rev limiter because the pcm shifts at specific MPH not rmps. i good tune should solve the problem

If the PCM not been reprogramed shouldnt matter, The speed transmitter is located on the tranny. So if he has installed a 4.10 rear without reprograming the shiftpoints should work like stock acording to mph on the speedometer and rpm, the biggest problem is that the speedometer is way of......

I should take a look at the trannyfluid....

Thanx guys. I'm going to have a mechanic look at it beforehand. I'm hoping it isn't a major problem cuz I fell in love with the car . Any more opinions would be helpful. Thanx.

Re: hitting rev limiter on an A4

i had the same exact thing happen to me hit rev in 1-2 and 2-3 a few times before it would ingauge i thought same thing get pcm 4 less to help me out but then about 2 months later (last week) the tranny lost drive and overdrive just driving down the highway not even hard on it so i get a new tranny and put it in guess what no more hitting the rev limiter so it was the tranny slipping slightly the whole time

Does the speedometer show the correct mph going down the road?
