HELP! weird rear-end noise

I have a 94 Z 6-speed.
During sharp turns I hear the strangest "click click click" noise coming from the rear. I am almost certain it is coming from my rear axel housing. Everything is stock back there.

could it be the fluid is goin bad or runnin low?
has anyone else experienced this?

Re: HELP! weird rear-end noise

I got the same popping/clicking noise form me rearend also when i go around turns along with a whining sound whenever I let off the gas when driving. I got the gears replaced under warranty and it fixed the whining sound for a few months then it came back. But the dealer said the gears were causing the popping but it never went away after the new gear install. They said the gears were not installed correctly.

Now i have no warranty and my rearend sounds like crap. I got an 02 z28 with 2.73 gears. The car has 26,000 miles. I don't know what differential I have (auburn or zexel) not sure how to tell.

But I also sure would like to know what causes this popping/ticking if anyone has any info.

i got your PM, and if you could e-mail me a pic of your diff. i'll tell you what it is, but it sounds like you might have the zexel. only because it's poping hard on turns, this is common when the zexel wears. does it also feel like it wants to lock up before it pops?
and the gear noise could be all of the metal fragments floating around in your metal or your diff. bearings dont have enough preload on them, causing the diff to wable and not stay vertical in the housing.

Talking Re: HELP! weird rear-end noise

well, i took the z to see wtf was up with this problem. turns out my diff. was leaking fluid causing the gears to whine and click. So got a new gasket, fluid, and that GM additive that you must have. problem solved.

Thanks for your time and help with this problem 1BAD86Z. So far it just sounds like it wants to lock up but doesn't yet feel like. My car only has 26,000 miles on it and the gears were replaced with just a little over 20,000 mileson them. Do you think it may be possible that if the diff is trying to lock up this could be hurting the transmission This idea just came to mind because my trans has not been shifting right and has started making some buzzing/crackling sounds. Whenever I slow down and step back on the gas its as if there is slack in the drivetrian. And when I step back on the gas it does not feel as if the drivetrain is engaged and the engine revs up alittle and takes up the slack and makes my car jerk forward. It almost feels as if the trans slips the first couple seconds when I hit the gas then catches.

I will try to get a pic of my diff soon. But I don't have a garage and its getting really cold here so it might be a little wile. I am really hoping there is just something lose I can tighten up but with my luck im sure its not

And iCE I didn't mean to high jack your thread but I saw you figured out your problem so I hope you don't mind . I hope my problem is as easy to fix as yours. But I checked my diff and its full.
