help, need ideas for next trans in 67
help, need ideas for next trans in 67
hey guys, i no this should be in the more tech sections but kinda just bench racing. Looking to order the trans soon, so i also need a few quick answers...
I got 408ci Stroker producing 510hp in my 67'.
4:10 rear gears but will need an upgraded rear so dont let that be an issue
700r4- highly reccomended for some reason (fully built, prob performabuilt)
200R4- Hot Rod mag said they can be made VERY strong and they are smaller so easier to work with. (fully build, prob performabuilt)
manual
buddy has a M22 4 speed i can get cheap but REALLY want Overdrive
T56 2K w/o all swap parts
Super T10 same buddy has one for cheap but idk if they can stand the power
keep in mind i want to have around 700hp in near future
Budget is 2K for trans, MAX of 1,500 for swap parts

I voted for the 700r4 but I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the car. With that kind of power and drag racing type launches, it is only a matter of time with any of the trans you have in your survey. For more of a pro-touring type setup and street/road course type of driving activities, the T56 would be my preference. The built 700r4 would be a nice compromise for any type of car setup with street/straight line/road course driving. imho
I would go T56 all the way. I just don't think driving an automatic is any fun in a hot rod car. I have had both kinds and I will take straight drive every time unless I'm doing nothing but drag racing. The T56 is tough to beat. It will hold 500hp in stock form from what I've seen and can easily be upgraded to handle over 1000hp. The double overdrives make it a pleasure to drive anywhere, I can go 90mph w/ a 3:73 rear and still turn less than 2500 rpm. What other trans will let you do that? If you are putting this car together to DRIVE, I think you will be the happiest w/ a T56.
Even if you don't got w/ a T56, I would highly recommend something w/ an overdrive. Going down the interstate a 3500rpm is no fun.
