Help me choose a posi-unit & gears

(car is a 1994 camaro lt1, 3:42 gears, a4)
Well ive destroyed my posi-trac so i need a new one. I dont even know where to begin to look so any help is welcome! I would like to find one for under $400 that will hold up for a while since I dont plan on selling my car anytime soon. I would also like to get your opinion on gear choices. Iam thinking of going to 3:73's, but have been told it wouldnt be that big of a difference and to go with 4:10 or 11?! My car is a weekend-driver so gas mileage is not a big concern but just curious how bad would 4:10 or 11 gears be compared to what I have now?
Thanks for any advice!

IMO if you're gonna spend big bucks on a 10 bolt you might as well save and get a 12 bolt. It should hold up to about anything you can throw at it, especially with an auto. And 3.73s should be plenty for an auto. If they can't satisfy your off the line urge you'll need to get a stall to complement them. Now this is just an idea of course, but a 12 bolt w/ 3.73s and a 3k stall, complemented by some meaty M/Ts, would be great. Throw some nitrous in there to spray off the line and you'd probably scare the crap outta people.

Re: Help me choose a posi-unit & gears

Ahh if only I dont have a steady job at the moment so iam just looking for the most cost-affective route. My motor has over 130k miles on it so I dont want to spray it either. Its mostly stock so i dont see the need for a 12-bolt and M/T's just yet.
All in good time though. Meanwile would you happen to know where I could find a posi-trac unit?
Thanks for the reply

Re: Help me choose a posi-unit & gears

You can't go wrong with either an Eaton or a PRO-series Auburn. For gears generally the GMs are the most quiet. I think SLP sells them. I've heard good things about Motives, too. (I heard somewhere that GMs are made by Motive, but I can't remember).

I have 7 years and countless 11 second passes on my Pro Auburn unit with GM 3.42s, however my Strange 12 bolt with 3.73s is on the way...
