guys i need your help..... please

ok here is the deal i have a 98 z28 and the differential was replaced around 6 months ago with a rebuild one. now the right seal is leaking bad so i have gone to napa, autozone, like 3 different places to look for it. and i find it now the problem is that the one i find is 2 times the size of the one i took off now it wont fit. and they tell me that maybe because that differential that was installed belonged to another car or truck but until i know to what?, they cannot help me now all i have is some numbers that i found at the bottom of the differential.

it is a limited slip GM 5 it has a serial#26041414 10 bolt 7.5 thats all i know

i dont know if they made different models or it changes by the year.

Look for a number on the old seal. Usually they have a number on them. The parts store can cross reference or even match up the part number.

Are you sure the seal you are getting from the parts store is for the axle and not for the pinion gear? I have had this happen to me before. The parts store guy tried saying it was the axle seal and I looked at the screen myself and seen he in fact gave me the pinion seal. I have looked all over and only see one number for a axle seal for a 7.5 and 7.625 diameter rear. Timken seal Part# 8660s fits all F-body's , S-10's, Even Impalas. It is a common brand in most parts stores. Who told you that axle seals have different diameters for a 7.5 rear? I have not seen anything for a different diameter axle in these rears.

Re: guys i need your help..... please

the timken seal is the first one that i got at autozone. and it didnt fit i dont know why everywhere i ask they give me the same size one. but the thing is that the one i took off is half the size of it. the plastic part is the same but the outer metal part is the one that is big and it wont fit in place. so i guess that that differential doesnt belong to a f body. or an old one maybe a 89

Well I am not sure what you can do then as I looked up from 82 up axle seals and they all use the same part number, even the 7 3/4 aussie 9 bolt. Where did you get the rear end from?
