GM Hightech 10bolt Build Up...

In the latest issue of GM Hightech they did a 10 bolt build up on their teal LT1 Bird. The replaced the axcels and threw in a new posi/gears with a master install kit. I was just wondering if anybody did that around here, and actually had good luck with it. I'm just trying to justify spending more money on my 10 bolt to save myself from the $2300 price tag on the 12bolt. Just looking for thoughts or opinions. Thanks guys.

in the end i think 12 bolt or 9" are your only choice but i did a used posi (looked new was rebuilt to) new gears (thicker Series 2 ones) then a T/A Girdle

Hmm i've done some further research and yea doesn't look like the 10bolt is very promising with any type of set up I can already feel my wallet getting lighter.

This is how I look at it.

How long has your 10 bolt lasted? Mine has lived for 80k miles, so if it went out I'd have no prob dropping the cash on rebuilding it because even with soft tires and a cam, I obviously don't abuse it enough to warrant a 12 bolt.

Now if the cost of the rebuild was near the cost of a 12 bolt then I'd go that route.

Around how much power do you need to be putting down before they usually officially blow up? Like for instance, I just installed a NX kit and now i'm scared to use it because i don't know if it will blow up if I spray it out of the hole exspecially if i'm using my ET Drags...

Well my Hawk was near stock and has 41k miles on it. I bought it with 40k about 5 weeks ago with the rearend howling. Got the 12 bolt in the other night and the 10 bolt out. It was demolished. No metal chunks, but posi was dead, and everything was falling apart, nothing was tight or near tolerance. Best money spent on any of the 3 fbodies ive owned.

My 00 is cammed etc and it is still holding up fine. Haven't dynoed since the cam but it is a 226 grind. I have a friend with a 98 Formula and 400 whp rolling on Nitto DR's and he is still running the original 10 bolt. Both are M6 cars.

Then there are guys who bust them stock.

Its really a crap shoot and (IMO) how and how much you beat on it. I made sure mine has no wheel hop.
