Getting my Tranny rebuilt

Well if any of you know my tranny was totally F*%^'d

I still have a 3 yr/36000 mile warranty for carmax and AAMCO is going to rebuild it for me for my $75 deductable!!!

so im paying just 75 bux for a full rebuild

I was going to get my tranny rebuild by CPT, but i would have to send my tranny away and im not the skilled with working on cars yet, so im taking advantage of what i have.

Do you guys have any advice for my on what i should ask them about the rebuild

(what parts are they using? etc.)

If aamaco is rebuilding it you will be back to them to rebuild it again shortly!

Also there is nothing to ask them when they do it, specially when it is warantee work, they will just through a ****ty stock rebuild together.

But hell you paid for the warantee and you are getting you moneys worth, I know I $hit myself when I found out I needed a rebuild, at least it will only cost you 75 for this one, just be sure that you are still under warantee when the rebuild goes out! Or at least start learning about cars and saving money to send it out when it goes out again.

Sorry not being snooty or anything I just haven't heard of anyone that has had a aamaco style place do a rebuild that lasts more then a few months, a year if you are lucky and never get on it too hard!

Re: Getting my Tranny rebuilt

Thanks for the reply even though it made me feel bad

But its like this, im 17, have a low money situation, especially for my car.

I was fortuante enough to get my 95 Z for about 8K with only 45K on the clock
so im happy with it until the tranny started going out

My mom got me the warranty for it because its hard to get a used car with a warranty like this one.

If AAMCO does do a S*#!ty job, ill be back there again and have them do it again for only 75 bux, if it happens twice, ill go somewhere else.

But the guy i talked to on the phone said he had done alot of automatic camaros and it would be no problem to fix, he knew alot about the 4L60e too

When i drop it off today, im going to see if i can pay a lil extra to throw in a shift kit or something

No I didn mean to make you feel bad, I know exactly the situation you are in.. I am a little older but I work to pay my bills and everything else goes to saving for my wedding comming in a few months.. so almost zero extra cash flow here, and it felt like I was kicked in the ***** when I found I needed the rebuild.

I was just warning you that you might want to start saving now for a good rebuild, even if you get it done 4 times before the warrantee runs out that is still $300, half of what you pay for CPT to do a basic rebuild..

Good luck with it, I hope that they can hook you up, but since you are on a budget and depend on the warrantee then be sure the shift kit doesn't void it!

Re: Getting my Tranny rebuilt

Try to get a good rebuild man, cause WHEN it ****s up again after AMCRAP butchers it you'll lose even more money in down time and frustration. Everyone i've ever heard of using AMCRAP had problems from day one. My dad is one of them and had a tranny in one of his 96 chevy work vans rebuilt by them (lost reverse and bad slipping in other gears) and it never did act the same (sluggish and lazy shifts, park never would fully engage, reverse took 10 minutes to engage, etc)... and blew up again in about a year. He had a friend rebuild it next out of his own garage and upon teardown... all of the stock clutchpacks were still in there!!! It was a 100k mile tranny and needed a ton of new things... dad paid ~$800 for a basic "rebuild" and AMCRAP only put in a new shell and band. They are a complete rip off... DON'T TAKE YOUR TRANS TO THEM!!!!

CPT is in maryland, just in case you're from that area. Frank knows his stuff and will stand behind his work.
