Gear brand and TA cover
Gear brand and TA cover
This summer I will be swapping out my 3.23s for 3.73s. Couple of questions though:
1. I was going through eBay and noticed somoene is selling "Genuine OE GM" gears. Are these real and would this be my best bet for gear brand?
2. What kind of stuff do I need to get for the swap as far as bearings and such?
3. Would one of those TA covers be a good investment on my rear end?
Thanks a bunch and I can't wait to do the gears

Re: Gear brand and TA cover
1. My GM gears have GM stamped onto the ring gear with the ratio next to it. If they have a pic showing this, then I would say they are real GM gears, although they are made by a company called Motive, I believe.
2. You'll need an install kit like the one from Thunder Racing. You can get the solid crush sleeve and the deluxe kit or whatever, but it depends on what condition your bearings are in and how much you're willing to spend. You'll also need gear lube and posi additive.
3. I never bothered with a TA cover since I haven't seen any proven results of it providing a significant increase in strength. It wouldn't hurt, but personally I never bothered. I'd save that money for when your rear end breaks.
I hope you're not planning on doing this yourself. Find a good, reputable shop to do your gear install and they should be able to get all the bearings, lube and such for you. Good luck.
