funny noise in clutch/tranny when downshiftin-help!!
I have a 95 M6 with just over 70k on the clock. Today my clutch/tranny started making a funny noise whenever i downshift. For example, i'm driving through town and slow down to make a turn, with the clutch pressed down, I put it into a lower gear, and something is making a weird, scratching/deep growl type of noise, its hard to explain. I had my brother listen to it and drive it, who used to be a mechanic, but has limited knowledge on manual trannies. He thought maybe it was the syncrhos in the tranny, cuz he was pretty sure that the clutch was fine. Has anyone else had this problem??? any solutions or suggestions to what it might be? thanx

ok my 2000 ss camaro m6 is was doing this and then it stoped and now the clutch is so messed up that u cant sometimes shift into gears with out double clutching. im changing my clutch out in the next few days so ill get back and tell u if that was the prob
I have a similar, or perhaps the same, issue. Put the clutch in at high rpms, and once the engine revs drop back to idle there is a squeal/grinding noise and I can feel it in the shifter. This situation creates a large RPM difference between the trans input shaft and the flywheel/clutch. So does downshifting with the clutch in. In other words, it makes the throwout bearing spin really fast. right?
I'm hoping it's the TO bearing. Another possibility would be pilot bushing, or maybe misaligned trans-to-engine. That is unlikely for a stock setup, but could be part of my problem since I changed engine blocks and do not know how to check the alignment because there is no center hole to measure against in the bellhousing.
