flywheel machining

Car is a dealership with blown slave cylinder and a jammed clutch fork. They are going to pull the trans today and see what is going on. I spoke with the service department about them resurfacing the flywheel when they install my clutch and they told me that you can't. I asked to see where this was in writing and he looked it up and showed it to me on their computer. In bold red something to the fact of......... when replacing clutch disc and pressure plate, replace flywheel and do not machine flywheel......or something to that effect. He said that it would move pedal engagement and some other stuff. He said that he would check the flywheel when he pulls the trans and let me know if it is good or not. My question is, I have seen where others have resurfaced (machined) theirs and others have recommend it, so why would it say not to resurface it? Are there problems with engagement or pedal engagement?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can definitely resurface the flywheel and use it. But they are just like brake rotors, once they have been machined past a certain tolerance, they are no good. If you do end up replacing it, you can get a new one from Autozone. They will give you a core charge for the old one.

Thanks for the help. In order to not complicate the situation and them standing behind their work, I just went with a GM one. Costs alot more, but maybe will save any future trouble.
