few rear end questions
few rear end questions
on a 97 ws6 with the stock rear end, which is a 10 bolt right?
the car, under acceleration that is barley more than driving ms daisy, the rear end makes all kinds of noises, and it makes it only when getting a little power, like as soon as the car starts moving and as soon as it starts making good power.
the ws6 has flowmasters, filter, and hpp, so guessing around 320 hp at the flywheel is that enough to blow the stock rear end?, how much is required in just fixing this money wise.
My car is 95 z28, it has stock 2.73 gear ratios, i plan on eventually having some good power in this car, so i will have to upgrade to the 12 bolts right? how much does this cost and what is requirerd
both cars are auto, and both that abs without traction control
thanks

Re: few rear end questions
Just pull the rear diff cover off and take a look in there. It'd take 5 minutes and tell you exactly what's wrong.
As for the 12 bolt, they're generally going to run you around 2 grand. Plus labour if you're not going to install it yourself. You don't "need" to upgrade to a 12 bolt, but it might be a good idea if you're going to be putting down some decent numbers. One of the biggest factors is the type of tires you use. If you just use street tires you should be fairly safe with the 10 bolt. I'm making about 350 HP right now and have 4.10's and my rear end has been holding on rather well.

i just replaced my diff for my 10 bolt, im runnin around 300-310. it shouldnt be to much power to tear up that rear end. i just replaced the old posi unit with a used one out of a formula firebird. the cheapest way to fix your problem would be to pull the diff cover and possibly replace entire unit with the 12 bolt rear end. other wise you will spend to much time replacing the diff with a stock one or an aftermarket one then you will have to set the back lash correctly and in the end you will prob end up swaping for the 12 bolt. thats just my opinion i just got done workin on mine and it wasnt to hard but its not a fun job!
Re: few rear end questions

as for my car it will be a long time before i will be making over 350rwhp yet alone having 2k to spend, so then when i am ready to get 3.73's i will just keep 10 bolt
thanks much
