im def thinking about giving up the t56 tranny and going to automatic for so many reasons.. is it as easy as getting an auto tranny and swapping it out or is the process very difficult?

Well it can't be much more difficult than swapping from auto to manual. The only major areas to be concerned about is you have to weld a little on the tranny tunnel, to close up the shifter hole and create a stand for the auto shifter assembly, you would need an auto radiator or an external tranny cooler, and I think you need the wiring harness from an auto car.
