Drivetrain noise

Was at the local dragstrip last night and I developed a noise somewhere in the back.

A little backgraound info: Past few times at the dragstrip I notice a light knocking noise from the rear mostly while turning. Always figured it was the limited slip as some say it is normal to have a little noise in a turn. Never heard it while cruising of anything other than slow turns.

But last night after I finally got the elusive 12 second pass(12.98 to be exact) The noise became louder. I ran once more and noticed the noise did not go away when I was going straight and at higher speeds. When I was on the highway on the way back it got pretty loud. Its a hollow type knocking sound that varies with speed and accel/decel/cruise(loudest while cruising at highway speeds). So I get it up on jacks today and best I can tell the noise is coming from the driveshaft. Not really from the rear, but not the trans either. So I do the old hand guesstimation check on play in the rearend. It seems to have alot, but I never really checked it before.

I'm thinking the rear has too much play and is letting the driveshaft act like an impact on the rearend gears.

Anyone have a problem like this? Any ideas on what else it could be?

P.S. cant forget to mention I probly bent a pushrod too

Not yet. Stupid jack leaks and can only get the car a couple inches off the ground, and since its also lowered that doesn't leave much room. I'll get a better look at work on monday. Just wanted to see if anyone has an idea of what else it could be.

It's really hard to diagnos a noise on the internet.
#1 suspect= u-joints
If not then you'll just have to pull the cover and do an inspection of the ring gear, pinion gear, and spider gears.
