Drag radials = broken 10 bolt...Yay/Nay?

Looking for some rubber to pull some 2.00 60'...It's hard to do better than a 2.2 slipping the clutch w/ my current tires (fuzion zri's 245's). Would running any type of drag radials put me at serious risk of breaking the 10 bolt at the track? (can't really afford a new 10 bolt right now, let alone 12 bolt or 9") Should I consider a girdle (by girdle I mean hardneded cover w/ caps) as well?

Also...what is the hardest on a 10 bolts? i.e. the best way to break one?
I noticed at the track after a ****ty launch and my tires spun, once they caught about 20 ft later I would get a nasty jolt from the rear...that can't be good huh?

Only one way to find out. I'm going to find out too as soon as I get my car back together, I have bfg drag radials for the street and MT et streets for the track.

Have you tried launching off idle?
Well considering its an m6 an idle launch I don't believe will cut me a 2.0 60'. I usually launch around 1500, sometimes a little higher when I feather the clutch on the release.

Your fine, just slip the clutch.
Get the TA cover and a solid pinion spacer instead of a crush sleeve.
You can break the rear with the DR's, you can also break the rear with street tires. Its all about how much shock you send through the driveline.

I pulled 2.1s with street tires leaving at 2000 or so, slipping out the clutch as fast as possible, i'm sure with practice i would have seen a 2.0 somewhere, but i would'nt try MT Radials, your just takeing a big risk, because its going to bog leaving at 2000, the only other alternative will be rideing out the clutch & leaveing at 4500 or so, Now do you realize what thats going to do to your clutch lol, the only real way to get a 1.9 or better 60ft. is leaving HARD, Get the RPMs up to 5-5500 & dump the clutch, the 10 bolt will not handle that for "very long", i would say it won't handle it at all, but some do get lucky for a short time leaving that way, but they have a 9" waiting in the garage & a trailer to tow them home.

I run et streets at the track and have been for a couple of years now on the stock 10 bolt. For the first 2 years the car was an a4 and was cutting 1.8-1.9 60' with them. Now that Im a m6, Im still running the et streets except I put the pressure at around 20psi instead of 15psi when i was an a4. I usually launch around 35-4k and then kind of slid step the clutch or launch around 5k feather the clutch bit not to the point were you smell clutch. I think the clutch you run and how you launch will play a good part on how long the rear will last.

stock 3.42's.

This is the tire I currently run which I think is very similar to the guy who posted the BFG's he uses to knock down 2.1's.

Perhaps letting our about 20#'s of air will help next time.

His bfg's use a better rubber compound, so the tread pattern may look similar but in reality they are very different.

I dont mean to be a dick, but your tires are ****. They will hold you back.
Get a set of MT dr's or if your going to dd em nitto's or bfg's, they will both last much longer than the MT's.

Dont worry about breaking your rear, you wont do it unless you drop the clutch or do something stupid.
They are weak but not that weak.

Agree with slomaro...an M6 launch is diff than an A4 launch but my A4 allowed me to do 1.75s all day long with 4.10s in my old 10bolt. I think your rearend gear will work in your favor. Just dont be doing any 5k or even 3k clutch dumps...M6 will break a rearend long before an A4.

Good luck!

Edit: I ran 275/50s MT DR on my 10bolt as a daily...great tires for the street and track. Wouldnt run any other DR.

Yea, they could be total ****...I don't know, no am I offended they came brand new on the car when I bought it so I figured I'd give em a shot. They were rated like 8.5 in dry traction on tire rack, I believe the bfg's were like 8.9
