Does this sound like a converter problem?

I am running a 12" 2800 stall converter and recently began running pretty fast numbers especially up here in Denver. Running 12.0's to 11.60's with a 100 shot out of the hole it feels like I am not putting full power down till about the time I pass the tree. It hits and comes out of the hole ok but as soon as I pass the tree it seems to actually "lock" and jump out like I just launched again. My 60's are low 1.70's. It was getting really bad when I was running in 11.60 range. Could this be the converter ballooning on me? I am not sure where the converter is actually engaging but it is definetly higher than 2800. It definetly does not feel like the trans is slipping either. Any input would be great!
