Does a A4 Tranny from a LT1 bolt up to a LS1?

Just bought a '00 Formula after destroying my '95 Z28, in the Z28 I have a StageII A4 with a Vigilante.

Will the A4 Tranny and Vigilante bolt up to my LS1 ?

I know M6's have different bellhousing patterns/input shafts so I'd think it's safe so assume A4's are not interchangeable.

I'm pretty sure it will bolt up except one bolt won't fit IIRC. It shouldn't matter though.. basing this on the fact that ls1 guys run th400/th350 transmissions without any adapters and just leave the one bolt out. Also you would have to be careful to make sure the tq converter has the right spacing off the flexplate.

I do not know if the 4L60E controls are the same for all years though..

Once again I will say " The Torque convertors are different" A LT1 Torque convertor will not bolt up to an LS1.

EvilZ28 not to dispute but you said:
The snout of the Torque convertor that fits into the crank will not fit. The LT1 and LS1 have different size openings so you cannot swap either or. It has to fit perfect or the Torque convertor will not be centered.

I am saying will it bolt up, this way I can use my LT1 build tranny and Vigilante Torque Covertor.

If It physically bolts up then my only obstacle would bolting torque convertor to flywheel, I would think someone should be able to do that.

Well that was my thinking at least.

I looked it up for you and this is what I found:

1. You need to possibly drill your flexplate for the converter or get a dual pattern flexplate before bolting the verter down
2. You need to shim the converter a little to make sure you have the right spacing between the converter/flexplate
3. You need to leave one trans/engine bolt out
4. You need to move the trans x-member or modify it

Don't take my word for it.. do some more research on ls1 sites.. you will find better info.

Aram, Thankyou, I have been looking for information on several web sites, and mostly came up with vague maybe's. If I may ask, where did you find this information?

I searched www.ls1tech.com .. do a search for 700r4 swaps as the 700r4 has the same dimensions as a 4L60E. Be sure to make sure that the ls1 computer controls the ls1 4l60e the same way that the lt1 computer controls the 4l60e. I don't know anything about that.
