Angry Damn transmission bolt problems!!

Okay so today i was getting ready to put my new vigilante converter in and i got everything torn down and was ready to start unbolting the tranny. After lowering this and that just so i could get my friggin hands in there, the top bolts wouldnt budge. I was using a lift so i was standing putting everything into it. I used a damn IR thundergun on it and it still wouldnt come off (2 ft. of extensions, 2 separate ones). What the hell do i do? Someone please help me on this, as i am lost on what i can do. Thanks in advance. ~foz

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

lower the tail down and let the mounts flex.... you should be able to get on it with your gun without an extension just a deep socket. Lower it as much as you can in the rear to get more access.

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

I loosened all of my bellhousing bolts by hand with a 1/2" ratchet fairly easily

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

i lowered the whole suspension, i had room to get my hand in there, but definitely no way to get the gun in there. We only messed with one, cuz we figured if we couldnt get it out, there was no point in getting the other ones out. It was the bolt at the top of the housing. We removed driveshaft, the other long black trailing arm thing, exhaust, and we lowered the front suspension and removed all cross bracing. We used the impact with a 12" extension and a 6" extension together. I was considering buying a solid 20" extension from sears, but i dont know if it will help. i dont think we could have lowered the tranny any more, we had room to get our hands in there, but no way the gun would fit up there. Any other ideas, cuz this really sucks, as i have a 700 dollar converter sitting there waiting to go in and i cant get the damn bolts off. ~foz

Make sure there is no pressure on the bolts.....I don't know why they would be such a PITA.

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

get a 3/4 impact and a 1/2 adaptor wither borrow the big gun or buy one from harbor freight cheap.

A better fresh 1/2 should get it though.. thats wild. Try a solid first.

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

i am gonna take my new thunder gun when i go back next time, it has the new titanium motor on it and can do a little more ft. lbs. I might have to go rent a 3/4" from somewhere i guess. Anyone think spraying pb blaster or something of that nature would help at all? I am gonna try the 20" extension and if nothing works ill just blow the car up. GM engineers need to be strangled after some of the problems i have run into. Being an engineer i would never make it so damn hard to work on a car, i mean goodness gracious. ~foz

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

Use a 3ft extension or so and you might need a universal. With that it's quite easy to impact it off.

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

Are you using a dedicated swivel socket? That's what I used...worked fine and everything was fairly easy.

Re: Damn transmission bolt problems!!

if ur talking about a jointed socket that can move so u get into hard to reach places, that thing sucked, we could put hardly any torque on it before it fell off. Where do i get a 3 ft. extension, sears only has a 20" as the biggest they sell? Thats what i was looking for, but had no idea where to get it. ~foz
