In my 99 A4 Z28 (2.73) I have noticed lately it seems alot faster in OD then when I put it in Drive and mash it. Usually I cruise around in OD to save gas and when im about to race ill throw it in D. Does that seem right? Cause today I was in OD and the car seemed like it was moving a good deal quicker. Thanks -Mike

 

no performance differance...D might help throttle response a little...

 

overdrive allows the trans to go into 4th gear, has nothing to do with acceleration, the motor doesn't magically make more power because of where the shifter is located.

 

how come on mine its only [p,r,n,d,3,2,] i have the 2.73's and i cant choose between D and [D] cause i dont have the overdive symbol?????

 

3 in yours = D D in yours = [D]

With factory 2.73 rear, you can't select 1st gear manually, unless you do a simple modification to your console/shifter.

 

Hmm I just thought it might shift sooner when in OD but I found out diffrently tonight Anyways my car is 2.73 for sure and I have the option to put it in 1st,2nd,3rd(Drive)

 

dont think so...some1 else must have changed the center console or put 2.73 in it...

 

LS1 cars with 2.73s did not have the 1 removed from the console like the LT1 cars did.

that's why the guy with the 94 doesn't have it, and the guy with the 99 does
