Actually I dont know what flaring means but I heard it once .

Basically in 3rd gear if I am cruising and then hit the gas sometimes it will rev to about 4,000 RPM before it engages. It feels like the transmission is not transferring any power to the rear wheels until something happens and it catches. If I give it enough gas to where it kicks down then I dont have this problem. The convertor is a Vig 3200. Is this signs of a problem or somewhat normal?

 

that's the trans slipping....I hope you know what that means.....sorry.

Most of the time they start in one place but it will probably get to the point where it will slip everywhere. I wouldn't wait until then.

 

exactly...it'll start in one gear not too bad, then it progresses like aids. Slowly eating away everything in it's path until there's nothing left inside...Time for an upgrade!!

I will . If this tranny goes out again it will be going in the garbage and a performance tranny will be replacing it.

 

if you're big on racing, nothing will beat a 350-400 3 speed. But if you want daily ability and comfort I would reccomend a 4L60E from FLP in Naperville, IL. I know it's a trip but they make some brutal 4L60E's.....stage 4 pushed a 3200# LS1 with a stock motor and a 9" on slicks to an 11.6. Only trans I know that'll keep 4th gear and handle the abuse of an 11 sec. pass.
