For a long time people with ASR cars have been talking about removing traction control, but with minimal success.
Some background (feel free to make corrections)...
Traction control on our cars consists of a few different parts:
The last item (to my understanding, at least) is what gets shut off when you un-check the "ASR" box in LT1 Edit.
The rest of the system is controlled by the EBCM, or ABS computer, which is mounted deep inside the dash directly over the brake/gas/clutch pedal assembly.
The most common way of "removing" ASR seems to be just taking out the servo motor and getting a non-ASR throttle cable. The problem with this is when the EBCM detects that the servo motor isn't present, it not only deactivates traction control, but the entire ABS system as well.
After messing around with a multimeter I discovered that the servo motor has a 2 Ohm resistance that could easily be simulated with the appropriate resistor. I didn't get a chance to try it because I had to go back down to school. Even so I'm not sure if this would be enough to "delete" ASR and keep ABS.
It seems the only thing left would be to convert the entire car to a 3-channel ABS setup.
Here are a couple relevant diagrams about that, taken from Shoebox's online parts manual PDF:
3 Channel: Pipes Wiring
4 Channel: Pipes Wiring
Based on what I've read in the parts manuals, the harness for the traction control EBCM just has an extra connector, but the other two are the same part number.
It seems that the only challenge is bending the lines that would go to the rear brakes. I'm not sure if a 4-channel rear could be rigged for a 3 channel EBCM.
Does anyone else (Shoebox? Injuneer?) have any technical info on this?

- Throttle control servo (The box over the driver side valve cover)
- Modulator valve (Mounts underneath the ABS box)
- PCM-based ignition timing control
