Converter question

Ok I'm looking at a budget priced converter that will get the job done... Looking at the fuddle performance one... 450 dollars for the 4l60... I have bolt ons right now and I'm putting 125 shot on the car this week... Should this do the trick.. Looking at 2800-3000 stall area... and how are they on efficiency?

Also.. when do converters actually "lock up"... I know if you lock one up on the dyno (using the computer) for a pass it shows higher numbers (like a manual)... Do these numbers ever reach the ground going down the track????

Also does this lock up when driving on the highway say below the stall rpms.. to help mpg?

Most cars do better in the 1/4m. with an unlocked converter. There are other reasons that you don't see lockup converters on drag cars, but one of them is that they generally don't help. The fast turbo V-6 Buick guys seem to use them, but that combo seems a law unto itself in a number of ways.

The lockup is controlled by the PCM (computer), though a manual lockup switch can be rigged up.

Yes, the purpose of lockup is to decrease revs when cruising which increases fuel mileage, lowers wear on the motor, decreases heat buildup in the tranny, and probably improves emissions as well.

People seem to like them. I was debating getting one of them, but i found a good deal on a slightly used Vig.

don't buy a cheap converter, you get what you pay for. I would stay away from TCI, and I would strongly recommend Vig. (i have had both)
